Senior Girls Recognized by NCWIT
Stephanie Sheffield and
Karen Saucedo were selected as runner-ups for the 2011-12 National Center for Women & Information Technology - Georgia Affiliate Aspirations in Computing Award for their work in inspiring others to study computer science. Sheffield was also honored as a
National Award Runner-Up. They were both recognized at an awards ceremony at Georgia Tech's Academy of Medicine on February 10.
Reading Team Wins County Competition

The Reading Team took first place for the third consecutive year in the Fulton County Reading Bowl on Saturday, Jan 21. Next up: the Metro District Competition on Feb 4.

Junior Brings Soldiers Christmas Cheer

Students Excel at Emory Model UN

Twenty nine students competed in the Southern United States Model United Nations conference November 12-13 at Emory University. Three school awards were given out at the completion of the conference; Centennial earned the top overall award. In addition to winning first place at the conference, eight students earned individual awards in their committees:

Students Stand Out at Model UN
At the Model United Nations conference at Georgia Tech on October 17-18, 28 students competed against over 1,000 students from all over the country. Centennial’s United Kingdom delegation won the award for Outstanding Delegation. In addition to this group award, five students earned individual awards: senior

JV Academic Bowl Team Brings Home Trophy

At the Georgia Academic Team Association JV Tournament on October 16 at Chattahoochee High School, the team of

Senior Wins Fulton County Cross Country Championship
Senior
Kane Davis won the Fulton County Cross Country Championship Meet on Saturday, October 1 at Webb Bridge Park with a time of 16:34. The boys varsity finished in 4th place with senior
Robert Mitchell (10th) and junior
Mitchell Smith (18th) also receiving medals. The girls varsity also earned a 4th place team finish led by sophomores
Haley McKay (6th) and
Natalie Beam (11th). The boys JV captured the 2nd place team trophy paced by #2 overall finisher sophomore
Carter Percy. Additional help came from 4th place finisher junior
Brendan Hall and 11th place finisher sophomore

Student Fares Well at Cougar Classic Debates
The Centennial Debate Team traveled to Chattahoochee High School on Saturday, October 1 to participate in the Cougar Classic Debates. After nine hours of competition in which each Centennial debater had to debate five times, junior
Eric Beeler placed 8th out of 30+ competitors from across the state.
SkillsUSA Leaders Attend Leadership Conference

A team of SkillsUSA leaders attended the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference on St. Simons Island on September 15-17. The team was trained in community service, leadership principles, organizational management, and success strategies. National leader

Student Earns Spot in Youth Symphony

Brandon Soloff has been chosen to be a member of the
Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony. Soloff is a four-year Marching Knights band member and is serving as one of the two drum majors this year. He is also a member of the
Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble and plans on majoring in music in college.
Silverman Aces the SAT

Senior
Adam Silverman scores a perfect 2400 on the SAT! Silverman first took the SAT in 7th grade where he scored a 780 on the math portion of the exam. Determined to ace the test, he took it again this past June and this time was the charm.

Carvallo Elected National Officer

Rising senior
Diego Carvallo was elected SkillsUSA Region 2 national vice president at the 47th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference June 20-24 in Kansas City, MO. He was one of 40+ students running for about a dozen elected offices. As a national officer, Carvallo will serve on the national stage. He will lobby the U.S. Senate and Congress to improve education. He will meet with state and national leaders on education and workforce-related issues. He will also represent SkillsUSA in various regional and national platforms. Carvallo is the first SkillsUSA national officer in the history of Fulton County Schools. |

Students Show Well at Skills USA Nationals
The SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference was held June 20-24 in Kansas City, MO. Nine students attended with two placing in the top ten nationally:
Rickey Groover '11 took 4th in the Action Skills event and rising junior
David Lemcoe took 7th in Internetworking. The remainder of the team represented Centennial in an outstanding way (and they are all state champions!):

Brian Bradley was elected and selected to be Vice President for the State of Georgia. He had been elected to a slate of officers in the spring at the state conference and was tapped as Vice President this summer in state leadership training.
